Know your benefits: What happens when my dependent turns 26?

One of the most frequently asked questions of the benefits team is what happens when an employee’s dependent is no longer eligible for healthcare insurance coverage. The Affordable Care Act requires insurers to make coverage available to dependents — married or single — until age 26. If your dependent or your spouse’s dependent is covered by a VUMC benefits plan and will turn 26 this year, below are five things you should know.

Know Your Benefits: What is an EOB?

Whether you’ve been working for two weeks or 20 years, navigating the benefits landscape can be a little confusing. This is particularly true when it comes to interpreting forms and documents you might receive from our insurance carrier. One of the most common documents is the Explanation of Benefits, or EOB statement. The EOB details how much of a doctor or hospital visit was covered by your VUMC insurance and how much you are required to pay. The EOB is not a bill. If you owe money for a medical visit or procedure, you will receive a bill from the provider.

Pharmacy services, there is an app for that

Managing your medicine through a Vanderbilt pharmacy just got easier. As most employees know, when you use a Vanderbilt pharmacy, you get the lowest price for your prescriptions. You benefit from these savings as an employee on the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Health Plan. And now Vanderbilt pharmacies offer convenience with a new app, called VanderbiltRx, that allows you to:
