Equal Employment Opportunity FAQs

Is VUMC an Equal Opportunity employer?
Yes. VUMC is an equal employment employer and as such is committed to ensuring a work environment that all employees can thrive and the principles of equal opportunity.

What does it mean to be an Equal Opportunity employer?
VUMC must comply with federal law including the provisions Title VI of the Civil Rights Act 1964, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, Executive Order 11246, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, as amended, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008.

I want to advertise for open positions in media sources that reach a broader population. Are there specific media sources that I can target?
Yes. You may contact Talent Management and Operations for assistance with finding the sources that will reach a greater population of individuals to interest them in applying to VUMC.

I believe that I am being subjected to discrimination in the workplace. Where can I go for guidance?
VUMC policy prohibits discrimination on the basis of their race, sex, religion, color, national or ethnic origin, age, disability, military service, veteran status or genetic information in its employment. Employee & Labor Relations is responsible for monitoring VUMC's compliance with this policy. Questions or concerns about alleged violations should be directed to Employee & Labor Relations.

Does VUMC give accommodations to persons with disabilities?
Yes. Federal Law and VUMC policy require that persons with disabilities be provided reasonable accommodations to help them perform the essential functions of their job effectively if this can be done without undue hardship and if the person with the disability makes a request for an accommodation.
